Walter the Musician - Lebanon 1956
Concert Tour in Lebanon, 1956. My father told me that it was his most impressive concert tour, which means something, because he was almost everywhere from USA to Russia.
Departure at the airport in Hamburg. The airplanes back then were so small, the orchestra had to travel in two planes.
These pictures speak for themselves, whereby it has to be mentioned, that the photos can only give a glimpse of the grandiosity of the temple in Baalbek, dwarfing the Acropolis in Athens.
Travelling around in cramped busses was not exactly 1st Class, but it was sweetened with receptions and fine dinners.
The photo on the right is no “accident”; wherever there was a beautiful woman my father was around. Making contact in foreign countries was easy for him, speaking fluently English and French. But according to my mother he was never unfaithful.
I like to show you two sketches my father draw on this concert tour in Beirut, Lebanon. They decorate my home office.
My father created many more, and gave them away to colleagues.
